This Year Is YOUR Year! How To Make 2019 Your Best Year Yet

Repeat after me, this is your year and you’re going to make it the best one yet! I absolutely love New Years because it’s basically a completely fresh slate and like everything that happened in the past year doesn’t matter so much anymore. Whether last year was a great you for you or it wasn’t, we have all been gifted a fresh start. So why not make the most of it? The purpose of this post is not to teach you how to make sure nothing negative happens in your life this year. because that just isn’t realistic. But instead to help you make 2019 the best it can possibly be regardless of whatever life throws at you!

GOALS & THEME

I have never ever set a New Years resolution before, mainly because there are known to be broken really quickly. So instead I like to set myself goals for the year. Last year I did a post on my goals & year theme, you can read that here. This year I’ve adapted the way I set my goals to make them more realistic and achievable. First, you need to come with your theme for the year, this is usually your intention for what you want to experience more of this year. It can be a word such as wanderlust or a phrase like mine which this year is getting my life back. Since the past year and a half, my health issues have taken over my entire life and this year I plan on getting it back! Then you need to break your theme into categories, I chose 4: Wellbeing, School, Business and Adventure. Then you add your goals to each one. Some of my goals this year are School – to read a new book every week to help retrain my brain and expand my knowledge. Wellbeing – I have to no longer care about other peoples judgements of me as I am living my life for me, not for them. Adventure –  To get my Learners License. Business – Hit 1,000 views on my blog every week. You can do as many or as little goals that you would like, just make sure they are detailed and are easy to track progress on.

BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU!

Instead of going along with New Year New You this year (which I myself have definitely been guilty of doing!) why not instead focus on becoming the best version of you that you can be? I recently watched Ruby Granger’s video on How To Be Your Best Self, check it out here. In the video, she talked about becoming the best possible version of you. The most helpful tip that I implemented into my own life was, to write down 10 goals of qualities of the person you strive to be. The top qualities I strive to be is selfless, bubbly, humble, determined and caring. Then when you are dealing with day to day situations you have a reminder of the qualities you strive to be and react to the situation accordingly.

FRIENDSHIPS & RELATIONSHIPS

The people you surround yourself with have the biggest effect on you, so you want to make sure its a good one! Make a mental note of all of your friendships and relationships. Are there people you have grown apart from or only talk to you when they need something from you? Are there any toxic relationships with friends or even family members. Maybe you have friendships you want to repair or nurture this year? Decide what friendships and relationships you want to bring with you into the New Year. And decide what ones you want to leave behind in 2018. Make sure you are going into the New Year surrounded by supportive and loving people. Because you deserve to be treated with kindness and love!

DIGITAL DECLUTTER

Everyone knows how much of an effect social media has on peoples lives, It’s up to you to do everything possible to make sure it’s a positive one for you! And what better time to do a digital declutter than the New Year? On all of your social media accounts, go through each person you follow and see how their account makes you feel. Unfollow any accounts that no longer interest you or have a negative effect on you. I personally like to then find a few new accounts to follow that fill my feed with happiness or that inspire me. Some of my favourite Instagram accounts are:

INSPIRATION / ROLE MODELS

I have always surrounded myself with people that inspired me. When I was younger it was people close to me like family friends and my Taekwondo teacher. Now I’m older and have discovered the world of social media I have been fortunate enough to come across a few people online that have since become huge inspirations to me. My biggest role model atm would have to be Emma Carey because she turned an absolutely horrific and life-changing accident into something positive and is now using her experiences and following to make a difference. Which is exactly what I want to do! Obviously, your choice in role model is a personal decision and hugely relies on your passion and life. For some people, it may be an author, an athlete, a singer or maybe even a fashion designer. Whatever your passion is I’m sure you will be able to find someone you look up to in that industry.

  3. What an amazing post Elina!! I completely agree about the whole new years resolutions not really being beneficial but these ways to make some changes are perfect, I went through and did a bit of an unfollow of accounts that were bringing me down rather than making my social media a positive space xx

  4. It’s something that is often forgotten/overruled by new year new me. But is so important because there is only one you and that makes you special!
