• Cassowary Crossing Connections CANVAS Print

    $250.00$1,500.00

When sign language dialects are shared between cultures they weave a more meaningful vocabulary of storytelling.

Two young deaf girls come across a family of cassowaries at babinda boulders the younger of the two questions what the sign is for the local native bird. She’s surprised to find out there isn’t a formal sign in Auslan (Australian sign language) instead the older girl takes the opportunity to share the sign from her own dialect of indigenous sign language. That mimics the casque, the horn like structure on the top of the cassowaries head as well as the bobbing movement they make as they walk through the rain forest.

Based on a real experience and depicted through paint with permission from a local deaf elder.

  • Everyone Has A Seat At The Table CANVAS Print

    $160.00$2,700.00

Flipping the narrative on a scene where those with alternative communication styles or needs are often left behind or forgotten. Everyone having a seat at the table is about just that, everyone having a chance to be heard however that looks like for them. Whether like the deaf young man communicating with Auslan (Australian Sign langauge) or the woman with a speech impairment next to him who needs more time to get her words out. The blind young man with his guide dog who needs his name to be called to know he’s being spoken to directly. And the young woman using an AAC device (Augmentative and Alternative Communication,) The device uses a visual language system with symbols, pictures, or typed text she can tap to create spoken messages. They have a voice worth listening to, take the time to understand what they need to be heard.

  • Fighting internal Fires PAPER Prints

    $45.00$300.00

In loving memory of Sarah Sexton, a double lung transplant and cancer survivor, who lived with cystic fibrosis. To me Sarah embodies the fight to live life when your world is constantly being set ablaze around you. How even with your body burning every moment, of every hour. You’re still trying to get through each day, trying to make the most of what you have and not lose yourself to the flames. Or melt under the heat of expectations of how others believe life with complex illness should look like or be managed.

  • She Is Still Gold CANVAS Print

    $160.00$2,700.00

    She Is Still Gold

I kept an eye on her always,

in the trees, in my little selfs prophecy.

And when i met the new girl she’d grown into

despite the pain of losing almost everything.

I saw the eyes of a girl i met when we were small,

    She was sunshine

    She is still Gold.

    – Natalia Prokopowicz

Lovingly crafted reproduction of my mixed media oil painting. Inspired by (and including) a poem gifted to me by a childhood friend in moments of reconnecting after illness and disability. Her words gave me some light when i felt unrecognizable to myself and as if I’d lost who i was completely. I hope this painting reminds you that sometimes resolutions look different to what you’d imagined they’d be. But the spark that makes you who you are is still there, even if it looks a little different to what it used to.
