How To Take Instagram Pics Your Confident With Ft TypicallyKate
Like lots of people, I have a love-hate relationship with social media, specifically Instagram. I love it for sharing my favourite memories and giving me an excuse to get creative with photography. But I hate the pressure I feel to look “perfect” or to have the “perfect” life. Lately, I’ve been working on comparing myself less and instead focusing on me, what I like, living a life I love and doing things I feel confident about. I especially wanted to become more comfortable in front of the camera.
So I thought I’d share with you, the things I’ve been doing to become more confident in the pictures I take. This weeks post is also a collab with Kate from TypicallyKate, She is doing a post on how she takes her Instagram photos over on her blog. So make sure you go check it out and show her some love! <3
INSPO
Start by getting an idea on the pictures you actually want to take. Pinterest is a great place for this as there are thousands of ideas on there. I’ve created a whole board dedicated to Insta/Blog photography ideas. So if I’m ever stuck for ideas that is the first place I go. I also love using the save feature on Instagram. I’m constantly inspired by other bloggers or photographers on Insta. So when I find a photo I am in love with, I save it to my photography file. Between both platforms, I never run out of new ideas.
SELF TIMER
Let’s be real, getting other people to take photos of you can be sooo awkward and daunting, if your not super confident n front of the camera or even just in your own skin. I know personally, I would freeze up and do that same awkward smile that everyone does, when your parents force you to pose for a photo. *cringing just thinking about it* To avoid that try utilising the self-timer feature on your phone or camera. It takes bursts of 10 photos within 30 seconds and it is a great way to practice new poses. I also love using props in photos so I have something to do and it also helps to get more candid pics. Use this time to become more comfortable in front of the camera and find your photo style.
PHOTO SHOOTS
Once you’re more confident in front of the camera, try going on a photoshoot. Make sure the person taking your photos is someones your super comfortable around. Pick a place you love and at a time where not many people will be around. So you don’t feel like a million eyeballs are staring at you. And if you have a certain photo in mind don’t be afraid to tell the person and show them any examples. This will help them have a better idea on the style of photos you’re going for. Most importantly have FUN! Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself or pull funny poses. Photo shoots are supposed to be fun, not stressful. And if you truly happy and enjoying yourself it will radiate through the photo.
SPAM YOUR CAMERA ROLL
Don’t be afraid to spam your camera roll! I always used to make fun of my Mum for the billions of photos she’d take, usually of the exact same thing. But I now know how smart that is, because then you have options. Just take a look at professional photographers, they take tonnes of pictures! Take the time to play around with different angles and take at least 10 pictures minimum. It may sound ridiculous but trust me you will thank me later 😉
LET YOUR CREATIVITY SHINE!
Allow your creativity to shine through your pictures. Try putting together some of your favourite ideas and create something brand new, uniquely you. Experiment with different photo styles and try adding doodles or creative filters to your photos. Don’t stress too much about having the “perfect” theme. I’ve found that once you find a style you love, a theme happens naturally over time.
STAY TRUE TO YOU
I cannot stress this point enough! Make sure you stay true to you. Only take photos you want to and feel great doing. Don’t just take photos because everyone else does. If you not the kind of girl that feels confident posting picture in your swimmers on the beach. Then DON’T DO IT!! And if you can do that easily and are all about that body confidence, then GO FOR IT GIRL!! It’s all about you and expressing who YOU are. Afterall it is YOUR Instagram account!
If you take anything from this post let it be. Stay true to yourself, please don’t try to be someone you’re not just to fit in. Because you are worthy and beautiful just the way you are!
