How To Become A Student Of Life | PART 1

Something that you probably don’t know about me is that I have learning difficulties and really struggle with school. This hasn’t always been the case though before my accident I was a straight A student and I loved school work. Afterward, I went from feeling smart to extremely stupid and I have had to learn a whole new way to learn. I’m also focusing on being kinder towards myself when it comes to my learning difficulties and that it’s ok if’ I’m not great at school because I have other skills I’m good at and really passionate about. Now don’t get me wrong I would be lying if I said I don’t still feel stupid, it’s hard not compare myself to others but it is something I’m working on each day. By becoming a student of life and taking every opportunity life throws at me I’m expanding my knowledge in a way I actually understand.

I wanted to share how I am becoming a student of life to help anyone else with learning difficulties. Because I know what it’s like to feel stupid, But I promise you it’s not the case! We are all so intelligent, it’s just about finding your special intelligence and how you learn best. In this 3 part series, I’ll be sharing how to discover how you learn best, how you can make learning a part of your daily life and how to find your special intelligence/passion. And if you would like to get early access to part 2 and 3, subscribe to my email list (you can find it below my comments section and recent post list).

HOW DO YOU LEARN BEST?

Every person has an individual way/s that they learn and understand the knowledge best. Personally I am mainly Kinesthetic, but also partially Auditory-Musical and Linguistic. Go through the list and take time to recognize how you learn best.

  • Physical (Kinesthetic) You prefer using your body, hands, and sense of touch.
  • Visual (Spatial) You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding.
  • Aural (Auditory-Musical) You prefer using sound and music.
  • Verbal (Linguistic) You prefer using words both in speech and writing.
  • Logical (Logical) You prefer using logic, reasoning, and systems.

WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT?

Now that you have a better idea on what your learning style is, it’s time to work out what environment you work best in. This is extremely helpful because if your someone who thrives off learning in a group setting doing online classes probably won’t help you thrive. Personally, I am an Intrapersonal learner, so I prefer to use self-study as I can work at my own pace in a cozy and calm environment, like at home, the library, a cafe or even at the beach.

  • Social (Interpersonal) You prefer to work in groups or classes.
  • Solitary (Intrapersonal) You prefer to work alone and use self-study.

  1. This is such a brilliant post Elina!! Its so clear that you’ve really done your research and have actually implemented the things you’re talking about in your life. Its so great that you’re spreading awareness of the fact that there are so many different ways to learn as for so many people school just isn’t the right environment for them to thrive. I can’t wait to read the next two parts xx

  2. I definitely tend to learn best alone apart from when I need help understanding something! It must have been difficult for you to have gone from straight As to struggling but it’s good to hear you’re working on it!

  3. Everyone has their own way of learning things, I’m personally a watch it kinda gal, once I’ve seen things being done I can master them almost instantly!

  4. I must say I do prefer to learn alone, that’s purely through fear of sounding stupid if I ask questions that maybe everyone else already knows.

    1. Totally understand the feeling! Though something I have learned is that the questions you’re scared of asking are usually the ones your classmates are also scared to ask 🙂 And you are a beautiful and intelligent person, never forget that!
